Sustainable Christmas: Christmas Dining Table Ideas 2021

Gather Round at the Christmas Dining Table 2021

I love this time of the year, who doesn’t? We cuddle up in front of the fireplace and have a cup of hot chocolate or mulled wine. For me personally, Christmas is backing ‘Vanillekipferl’ and going to the Christmas markets all over the town in Graz. The smell of cookies in the house reminds me of my Granny. It’s the season of coming together and sharing delicious food. I remember sitting at a long table at my Granny’s house, the best tablecloth and napkins, as well as the best plates and glasses, are out and ready for the Christmas dinner. In Austria people celebrate the arrival of the Christkind on the 24th of December, therefore Christmas Eve is the actual Christmas.

SUSTAINABILITY AT THE CHRISTMAS DINNER TABLE

When it comes to tableware I can get a bit emotional. I would give anything to have that tableware my Granny used back then. Recycled glasses and plates are totally on-trend on Christmas 2021 and, you guessed right, that’s certainly sustainable. If you don’t have inherited tableware, why not buy a preloved collection or buy high quality and pass it on to the children one day? Another interesting approach is swapping or borrowing the tableware from a friend.

Quality tableware for your hosted Christmas feast can be found at Nkuku. The glassware is exceptional, mostly handmade, and simply beautiful. If you expect a big crowd you might need place setting cards. Here is one way of making your own cards. These cards can be placed in pine cones and arranged on the table or you can make Christmas cards to go with a little eco-friendly or even vegan gift.

How to set the scene

Christmas is so much more than just food. We love to set the scene straight at the door with a beautiful wreath. This year I made my first own Christmas wreath for our Valley House door. This wreath can also be used as a table centerpiece on the big day if you wish.

Christmas lights outside and throughout the house are warm, welcoming our guests and giving us this special Christmas feeling. When it comes to eco-friendly gifts and entertaining Nkuku has lots of presents in store for us this season.
